MILAN - President Silvio Berlusconi has appeared in front of his residence of Villa Belvedere di Macherio, near Milan, to ensure everyone that he is fine after being taken ill during a speech on Sunday afternoon. He said: 'I feel fine. I collapsed due to tiredness, heat and the worry of the last few days. They all account for happened, but it is not too serious.' Casually dressed, the president then left for the San Raffaele hospital in Milan for observation.
President Berlusconi also explained that the collapse may have also been due to the antibiotics he has been taking following a knee injury and added: 'I am going for a check-up and have found something from the electrocardiogram. I will stay under observation in hospital for 24 hours.'
Doctor Stefano Bianchi, the official medical officer at the meeting in Montecatini Terme (Pistoia), where the president had the incident, said: 'Doctor Berlusconi was sweating excessively, but the vital signs were working fine and the heart was functioning without any problems. We lifted his legs, gave him some sugar and in a few minutes the president had completely recovered. He had a sudden and fleeting loss of sense and movement.'
