ONYEWU'S AMBITIONS

7/8/2009 9:23:00 AM

Milan's reactivity and the desire of measuring himself with the ambitions of a great club. It was this mixture in the operation that brought the USA national team player.

MILAN - Milan have therefore announced that they signed on a definite title the defender Oguchi Onyewu from Standard Liege. The gigantic defender of the united states was at the end of his contract: choice made on purpose by the player who wanted, with all due respect to the Belgian league, to measure himself at the highest levels, in the reality of a great club. The player, important particular, started in the USA national team, has a Belgian passport and signed a contract until June 30, 2012. The operation proved once again, the excellent friendhsip between Milan and Standard Liege, and in particular with its vice president Luciano D'Onofrio. However, Milan was quick and reactive.

Intense and quick in his recoveries, despite his size, able to arrive on the high balls (a particular which cost Milan a lot last season, if we think about the away games against Lecce and Torino and the home game against Werder Bremen), Oneywu was defined by Luciano D'Onofrio on Sky Sport 24 an "excellent purchase who had requests from many teams, including important Italian clubs."

Oguchi Onyewu was born in Washington on May 13, 1982, he won the Belgian league twice with Standard Liege and was the best player on the field in the recent semi-final of the Confederations Cup between USA and Spain, apart from having played well also against Egypt. Grown in the college of Clemson University and finalist of the Confederations Cup, Onyewu has behind him 117 games (6 goals) in the league with Standard Liege. He also played in Metz, in La Louviere and in Newcastle. He's a USA national team player: a representative with which he won the Gold Cup in 2005 and 2007, and in which he made 38 appearances and scored five goals.
