ON THIS DAY: FIRST WIN AGAINST REAL IN EUROPEAN CUP

MILAN – On this day 59 years ago, the 1st of May 1956, Milan defeated Real Madrid for the first time in the European Cup, winning 2-1 in the return leg of the semi-finals at the San Siro. However, having lost 4-2 in the first leg in Madrid, the rossoneri didn’t qualify for the final.

Also on this day:
1963: Dundee-Milan 1-0. Despite a defeat, Milan went through regardless to the European Cup final at Wembley.
1968: Milan-Bayern 2-0. Milan laid the foundations for their qualification to the Cup Winners’ Cup final.
1988: Napoli-Milan 2-3. A match that has gone down in rossoneri folklore, winning away to Maradona’s Napoli and taking a big step towards the title.
2010: Milan-Fiorentina 1-0. Ronaldinho’s decisive goal assured qualification to the Champions League.
