MILAN – There is a double training session today for Italy ahead of their EURO 2016 qualifier with Azerbaijan on Saturday in Baku. A reminder that 5 rossoneri are with the Azzurri squad and preparing for the match: Antonelli, De Sciglio, Bertolacci, Bonaventura and Montolivo.
MILANELLO - Christian Abbiati has spoken about the importance of keeping clean sheets and facing his former side Monza yesterday in a friendly. These were the veteran shot-stopper’s comments to the Milan Channel: "Going back to Monza is always special for me and is always nice. These friendly fixtures are useful for those that don’t play as much and they are also an important chance to show the coach what we can do. The coach changed the formation and I think we played well. Based on the players the coach has available, he can then choose the ideal formation. Keeping clean sheets helps to build up confidence. We have conceded in a lot of matches this season and the team needs to improve in defence."
Abbiati believes the squad are giving their all to come out of a testing situation: "It has been hard to find a solution at the moment, but the players are giving their all and the team does have a playing style, but perhaps we need to play with a bit more character and personality. Myself, Diego and Gigi are colleagues, rivals and friends all in one. Without the international players, it has been harder to train but it shows us that we have a competitive squad. I would like to point out something about Claudio Lippi. (former Milan Channel journalist who sadly passed away, editor’s note) When we were amateurs, he scored a goal against me and this memory always made us smile. I will always remember him for that."
MILAN – Davide Calabria has posted a photo of himself in training with the Italy U21s via Instagram. Click here to see it. For the Milan youngster, it is the first time he has received a call-up to the Italy U21 squad. A reminder that after defeating Slovenia yesterday, up next for the Azzurrini is a home match with the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
