Rino Gattuso and Mario Yepes: Put together they’ve been off the pitch for 11 months, 7 for Rino and 4 for Mario, but yet in Verona there were both exemplary, athletically prepared and playing with heart.
MILAN – They both took to the pitch at the Milanello sports centre today. Twp exemplary sports men who still today are both ahead of the pack, Gattuso and Yepes, the two pirates of Verona. The first played an hour and when his legs gave out, his heart pushed them on. The second played the whole game making no mistakes about it.
Their season so far however has been tough, here are the details:
9 September 2011: Substituted by Mark Van Bommel after 20 minutes of Milan-Lazio at the San Siro.
24 October 2011: The medical diagnosis of the sixth cranial nerve paralysis.
14 November 2011: Back training with the team.
13 January 2012: After a bout of the flu, new tests reveal a case of Ocular Myasthenia, previously excluded by all the specialists seen by the player.
3 March 2012: Rino Gattuso travels with the team to Palermo even though he’s not called up.
17 March 2012: Rino gets on the pitch at the end of Parma-Milan, substituting Muntari.
10 April 2012: Rino starts the game against Chievo, an example of heart and courage.
11 December 2011: Mario leaves the stadium in Bologna on crutches.
14 Decembre 2011: Medical diagnosis calls for surgical intervention. The prognosis is two months.
10 April 2011: Mario starts his first game since Bologna and is one of the best on the field during the win over Chievo.
