First Team

Six years have passed since the last match up between Milan and Anderlecht. It was the Champions League of 2006/2007 when Milan last met the Belgian side in the group stages of Europe’s top competition.

MILAN – The Champions League nights are back in Milan and on Tuesday 18 September at 20.45 at the San Siro stadium, the team will start this season’s journey in the competition. They’ll be up against Anderlecht a Belgian side that the Rossoneri have already faced twice before in Europe.

In the 1993/1994 season, Milan came up against Anderlecht in the knock out stages after having beaten Aaurau in the last 36 and FC Copenhagen in the last 16. Both matches ended 0-0 but despite the two draws, it was the Rossoneri who got through to the semis as the format was different to the current one. Milan went on to lift the trophy that season.

The last time the two sides met was in the 2006/2007 season. After a 1-0 win in Bruxelles with a goal from kaka, the Brazilian was on hand with a hat trick in the San Siro and another goal from Antonio Gilardino made the 4-1 score line. It was another Champions league triumph for the Rossoneri. 4 precedents, 2 draws and 2 wins with 4 goals scored and only one conceded. More importantly, the last 2 times Milan have faced this side, they’ve also won the competition. History bodes well.
