GUINNESS INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS CUP


Milan will be among the eight teams at the Guinness International Champions Cup, set to be broadcast in 151 countries in July and August. The first game for the rossoneri: Valencia-Milan, Saturday July 27th.

NEW YORK, NY (May 29, 2013) – Relevent Sports, a division of RSE Ventures, the sports, entertainment and technology company co-founded by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and Matt Higgins, today announced complete details for the 2013 Guinness International Champions Cup. 


The tournament begins July 27th in Valencia, Spain with A.C. Milan taking on Valencia, with other opening round matches played at University of Phoenix Stadium, AT&T Park and Lucas Oil Stadium.  

Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and Super Bowl XLVI, and one of the top sporting venues in the country will host one first round match while Semifinal contests will take place at Dodger Stadium and MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ).  Dodger Stadium, nestled in Chavez Ravine outside of Los Angeles will host a soccer match for the first time in its illustrious 51 year history.

Eight teams are participating in the one-of-a-kind tournament including club teams from Spain, Italy, England, and the United States.  Following is a list of all the participating teams:

Teams will be divided into East and West regions with Chelsea, A.C. Milan, Valencia and Inter Milan playing in the East while Real Madrid, Juventus, the LA Galaxy and Everton battle in the West.  

The East region will begin July 27 as A.C. Milan and Valencia face off in the Estadio Mestalla.  On August 1 Chelsea and Inter will meet in Indianapolis.  The four teams will face-off in the tournament semifinals on August 4 in New York.  The West region will kick-off as Juventus meets Everton on July 31 in San Francisco while a day later Real Madrid plays against the LA Galaxy in Phoenix.  On August 3 the four West region teams will face off in the semifinals in Los Angeles.

The tournament will be seen in 151 countries across the world and culminate on August 6-7 as all eight teams descend upon Miami’s Sun Life Stadium for a pair of exciting doubleheaders including the championship match on August 7.  FOX Soccer will televise 11 of the prestigious tournament’s 12 matches live, including the championship.

FOX Sports will also add to the coverage and broadcast a live match Saturday Aug, 3 at 8:00PM ET.  In future years the tournament will be televised by FOX Sports 1, America’s new sports network, launching August 17.

The eight teams featured in the tournament represent some of the world’s largest and most successful clubs.  Real Madrid is Spain’s winningest club with a total of 32 league titles and nine European Championships.  Likewise, the Galaxy is Major League Soccer’s most successful club and has won the last two league titles.  Inter Milan, A.C Milan and Juventus together have accounted for over 60 percent of the Serie A titles while Milan is tied for the most international cup trophies. Spain’s Valencia has won six La Liga titles and reached a total of seven European tournament finals.  Lastly, Chelsea has four English Premier League titles, including three since 2004 and seven F.A. Cup titles while Everton has lifted the F.A. Cup five times in its history.

Miami’s Sun Life Stadium will host all eight teams for the championship and consolation rounds on August 6 and 7.  The four games over two days will not only highlight the world-class level of the sport, the continued growth and passion for soccer in the United States but also Miami’s thriving food, arts and music scene with a two-day fan festival.
