A HISTORIC WIN FOR THE ROSSONERE: 3-1 IN THE DERBY

Two from Čonč and a goal from Salvatori Rinaldi: Inter defeated and back to top of the table

A historic win. Today, in the first-ever Women’s Derby to take place in Serie A, AC Milan came out triumphant over Inter thanks to a Čonč brace and a goal from Salvatori Rinaldi. In a sold-out “Breda” Stadium in Sesto San Giovanni, the Rossonere beat Inter 3-1 on matchday three of the league following the international break, heading back to the top of the table on maximum points (nine points, level with Juve). A superb team performance with a lot of good play, and even those who came off the bench had a decisive impact. The win was well-deserved, even though the match remained level until the 57th minute. It was at this point that the Slovenian Dominika Čonč, who arrived in last summer’s transfer window, scored the goal to put Milan back in front - a real turning point in the match. An afternoon of great joy, celebrated together with so many Milan fans at the stadium. The afternoon was also one to remember for Coach Ganz who celebrates his 51st birthday today: who could ask for a better gift? We’re proud of you girls!

MATCH REPORT
The Rossonere threatened right from the off, but none of Giacinti, Bergamaschi, nor Vitale could find the opener. In the 24th minute, after Giacinti’s goal had been ruled out for offside, Marinelli came close with her shot flying past the post. Both teams struggled to get going in the game, but it was Milan who broke the deadlock in the 35th minute: Giacinti picked up the ball from L. Andrade and squared it to Čonč who scored with her left. It then took a miracle save by Korenciova to keep Tarenzi out and protect Milan’s lead. Our first chance of the second half fell to Vitale, but she couldn’t help but place her header wide of the target. Then, the Nerazzurre equaliser arrived in the 54th minute: this time Marinelli drew Inter level with an unstoppable shot off her right. Milan bounced back quickly however, and the Rossonere went back in front just three minutes later thanks to Čonč’s second of the day with her powerful and precise shot from distance. More chances came in the 60th minute for Salvatori Rinaldi, in the 75th for Heroum and in the 77th for Marinelli. However, Milan killed off the game in the 87th minute as Salvatori Rinaldi headed home in the play following Bergamaschi’s free kick: the referee blew and the Rossonere celebrated their 3-1 win.
