It’s been a magical recent spell, primarily for AC Milan but also for Ante Rebić. The Rossoneri are flying and the Croatian forward is too. Against Bologna, he scored his eleventh league goal of the current campaign, all of which have come in 2020. Ante’s fine form is backed up by one illustrative stat: in 2020, only Erling Håland (13 goals) and Robert Lewandowski (twelve) have scored more goals than him from open play in the Top Five European leagues. Against Siniša Mihajlović’s Rossoblù side, Rebić played a key role in Saelemaekers’s goal to open the scoring, picking out an overlapping Theo on the left flank, before he then scored AC Milan’s fourth of the night in the second half.
Over the course of 82 minutes on the pitch, Ante created six goalscoring opportunities, including a goal, two shots on target and a pass which set up a chance for Kessie, who hit the post. Statistics aside, his contribution to AC Milan’s play in every phase was, as always, decisive. Tireless in attack, he never gave his opponents an inch when tracking back. For this and many other reasons, he’s the MVP from AC Milan 5-1 Bologna. Well done, Ante!
