STRIKERS: 21 GOALS

The Rossoneri's centre-forwards in 2020

Since the beginning of 2020, from Cagliari 0-2 AC Milan, the Rossoneri’s centre-forwards have found the net often and with confidence. Different players have played in that position and they’ve all managed to score goals: 13 for Ibrahimović, four for Rebić, three for Leão and one for Colombo. Zlatan’s regular position is the centre-forward role, with the Swede scoring ten goals during the 2019/20 Serie A season.

So far this season, he’s managed to find the net on three occasions: he bagged a brace at San Siro in the league against Bologna and scored a goal in Dublin in the Europa League against Shamrock Rovers. Due to a calf injury and a positive COVID-19 test result on 24 September, Ibra hasn’t played in all of AC Milan’s matches in 2020.

Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 formation has been highly successful in terms of guaranteeing goals for the team. We can see this in Ante Rebić’s case: when he started in the centre-forward position, the Croatian international scored goals in both Lecce v AC Milan and AC Milan v Roma in June, and he also won a penalty during Crotone v AC Milan in September. Having switched to centre-forward during the respective matches, Rebić also managed to score against Lazio and Juventus.

Rafael Leão, meanwhile, has scored three goals as a centre-forward, all against Ligurian opponents: at the Marassi against Sampdoria in July, and at San Siro against Spezia in October. In this position, Lorenzo Colombo also found the net against Bodø/Glimt at San Siro in the Europa League.
