ITALY WIN WITH TONALI DOUBLE ASSIST

Sandro starred in the Azzurri's success in Malta. Leão scored and won, but Kjær and Krunić both lost

It was a successful evening's work for Sandro Tonali, with the AC Milan player starring on Sunday 26 March for Italy. The Rossoneri number 8 played the opening 67 minutes and was heavily involved in both Azzurri goals in their 2-0 win away to Malta, their first of EURO 2024 qualification. In Ta' Qali, it was Tonali's corner that helped break the deadlock; Retegui expertly heading home after 15 minutes. Then, on 27 minutes, he crossed in for Pessina to slot home. There was also an assist - to give Denmark a temporary lead through Atalanta player, Højlund - for Simon Kjær in his side's thrilling 3-2 defeat at Kazakhstan. The Rossoneri defender captained and played the full 90 minutes.

In just over a quarter of an hour, with the game already tied up, Rafael Leão made a reasonable contribution in Portugal's 6-0 victory over Luxembourg. Coming on 4-0 up, Rafa, firstly, set up Otávio for the fifth goal, before bagging himself, finishing off a great individual piece of play. There was also space for the Rossoneri number 17 to miss a penalty, saved by the Luxembourg keeper on 85 minutes. Rade Krunić also got a full 90 minutes under his belt for his Bosnia, but ended up on the losing side as they were beaten 2-0 away to Slovakia.
