After his first days as a new Rossoneri player and his debut on Monday night in Cagliari, Soualiho Meïte held his presentation press conference at Milanello today. Broadcast exclusively on the AC Milan Official App and Milan TV, these were the words of our new midfielder, who recently joined the Club from Torino:
ROLE
"A midfielder needs to know how to defend and attack, I feel like I’m an all-round player. I’ve always played like this and enjoy doing so, using my physical strength and enjoying many touches in the process. Pirlo, Modrić and Yaya Touré serve as role models for me: I try to watch matches and make improvements, with the greatest midfielders providing me with inspiration."
AN OPPORTUNITY
"I won’t say that joining AC Milan is the opportunity of my life, but it’s a very important step. It’s an opportunity that could change my career: by doing well here, I can change as a player. These four months are highly significant. It’s certainly the most exciting moment of my career, it’ll be the strongest side I’ve ever been a part of. When you arrive and see an example like Ibrahimović, you can only follow his lead and do more and more. A lot of clubs were looking at me, but when I heard about AC Milan’s interest I didn’t think about anything else and immediately wanted to come here."
HIS ARRIVAL AT MILANELLO
"During my first training session, there was a lot of communication, and I liked that a lot. I also noticed the tight-knit nature of the group and felt the thrill of belonging to it. I immediately felt part of the team and was aware that this is a group that can do great things."
COACH PIOLI
"He’s made a great impression on me: a lot of movement is required when in possession, while we’re expected to work tirelessly and press the opposition without it. For my position, it’s the best way to work. I really like his style of play."
NUMBER 18
"It was the number that I had when I made my first-team debut, for me it’s a lucky number."
FAMOUS COMPARISONS
"I hear Gullit’s name mentioned, which makes me very happy: everyone knows he fantastic, an elegant and technical player. Desailly? I know him, he was a great player who accomplished great things, but I am me and I must write my own story."
WHAT SOUALIHO CAN BRING
"I know my own qualities, in this team there’s a lot of mobility and quality, and for me it’s easier to play in a system like this. Football is a language, if you understand it you feel comfortable. I have to work hard and get off on the right foot. I believe in myself and I know what I must do to be ready to play as a starter. This team is top of the table: I want to do even more, I have to work hard to help out my teammates."
