10 FACTS AHEAD OF SAMPDORIA V AC MILAN

The main statistics as tonight's showdown in Genoa draws nearer

There’s barely any time to rest and recover: after their comeback victory over Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday, the Rossoneri are set to return to Serie A action away to Sampdoria this evening. In the last meeting between the sides in Genoa back in July, Coach Pioli’s men ran out 4-1 winners. Ahead of the match, which is scheduled for 20:45 CET, here are some facts and figures that you need to know.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS IN GENOA

1- AC Milan have won 24 of their 62 away fixtures against Sampdoria in Serie A (D19, L19), including the most recent encounter at the Marassi in July (4-1).

STATE OF PLAY

2- AC Milan have picked up 23 points so far this season, a record for the Rossoneri after the first nine matchdays in Serie A since the three-points-per-win era began.

3- In terms of goals, AC Milan could set a new Club record for the number of consecutive league matches they’ve found the net in: they’ve already matched their previous best sequence (29), which they achieved between 1972 and 1973.

4- AC Milan have found the net at least two times for eleven consecutive league matches. The Rossoneri have never scored two goals or more for twelve Serie A fixtures in a row.

5- AC Milan have won their last six away fixtures in the league. Only twice in their history have they achieved at least seven consecutive away victories in Serie A: in 1993 under Fabio Capello (nine) and in 1964 under Nils Liedholm (seven).

GENERAL STATS
6- Compared to last season, AC Milan (+12 goals) and Sampdoria (+9) are the two sides who have made the biggest improvement in terms of goals scored after nine matchdays.
7- AC Milan are one of two teams (the other is Manchester City) that have had five players score at least five goals since the resumption of the major European leagues in May: Ibrahimovic (17), Kessié, Calhanoglu, Leão (six) and Rebic (five).

PLAYER FOCUS
8- AC Milan haven’t lost any of the 17 league fixtures that Franck Kessie has scored in, winning 15 of those matches. In total, the 23-year-old midfielder has found the net 19 times for the Rossoneri in Serie A.

9- Since January 2019, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the goalkeeper to have kept the most clean sheets in Serie A: 23 from the 61 matches he’s played in full (38%).
COACHES
10- Stefano Pioli has been in charge of AC Milan for 40 league matches, winning 23 of those (D11, L6). In the past 45 years, only two coaches have achieved more victories in their first 40 Serie A matches in the Rossoneri dugout: Massimiliano Allegri (24) and Fabio Capello (25).
