FC SALZBURG V AC MILAN: FUN FACTS

AC Milan's 2022/23 Champions League campaign starts today. First up: Salzburg. The Rossoneri, fresh from the memorable victory in the Derby, visit the reigning Austrian Champions. In the cauldron of the Red Bull Arena - with kick-off at 21:00 CEST - the Rossoneri are looking for their first points, hoping to start their European journey in the best possible way. FIRST MEETINGS
This is only the third European clash between FC Salzburg and AC Milan, with the Rossoneri having won the last two in the group stage of the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League, on their way to the final. We relived it in our Time Machine.

AC Milan have lost only one of their 11 previous fixtures against Austrian clubs in major European competitions (8W, 2D). The Rossoneri have won all of their last five European matches against Austrian clubs by an aggregate score of 16-2, beating FK Austria Vienna 5-1 in the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League in their last encounter.

Last season, the Number 9 scored most of his goals at San Siro, but it's a different story in Europe. 11 of the last 12 goals scored by AC Milan's Oliver Giroud in the UEFA Champions League have been netted on the road. Of all the players who have 10+ goals in the competition's history, none have a higher away goals percentage than Giroud: 78%, or 14/18. 

LAST AWAY MATCH
AC Milan won their last away match in the UEFA Champions League, at the home of Atlético Madrid (November 2021). The last time the Rossoneri won two away matches in a row in the competition was in October 2009.

AMMUNITION
Excluding own goals, all five of AC Milan's goals in their last UEFA Champions League campaign were scored by a different player (Ante Rebić, Brahim Díaz, Rafael Leão, Junior Messias, Fikayo Tomori); this is the most number of different scorers by a team in a season in the competition without more than one goal apiece since Celtic in 2017/18 (five also in that case).
