THE ROSSONERE HELD TO GOALLESS DRAW BY COMO

No way through for Ganz's side in Seregno

On matchday four in the women's Serie A division, Como Women and AC Milan played out a goalless draw. In a match lacking in excitement, the Rossonere had the best chances - especially Mascarello's free-kick that hit the bar in the first half - but weren't able to find a way through the home defence. A point each, then, which doesn't do much for the two teams' league positions, even if Coach Ganz's girls managed to keep another clean sheet on the road.

It's a result that has a disappointing feel to it, especially given the solidity of the Rossonere backline, which, led by the pairing of Swaby and Piga, barely gave the hosts a sniff and protected a rarely troubled Giuliani well. Attacking-wise, even if there was certainly no lack of desire, it just didn't quite come off for the team, who will now start looking ahead to their next league fixture: on Sunday 22 October, AC Milan will take to the pitch at the PUMA House of Football to face Pomigliano. Come on, girls!

MATCH REPORT
Captain Bergamaschi was selected for the 100th time in Serie A for AC Milan, while Piga made her first league start in the centre of defence. The match was played at a slow pace early on as the home side looked to push forward, but AC Milan comfortably kept them at bay. Then, with 20 minutes on the clock, Mascarello struck the bar with her free-kick. After a couple of Como attempts that didn't cause any problems for Giuliani, the Rossonere threatened in the 35th minute - Marinelli fired over after Korenčiová had got her hands to a Laurent cross – and again two minutes later (37'), with the Como shot-stopper keeping out a Grimshaw header.

Como were the brighter team at the start of the second half: the AC Milan defence stood firm to deny Karlenäs in the 51st minute, while Giuliani was in place to save a long-range strike from Vaitukaitytė five minutes later. Our No.1 raced out to foil Baldi on the 61-minute mark, while, at the other end, the newly introduced Asllani called Korenčiová into action with a header (72'). Soffia wasn't able to trouble Korenčiová in the 84th minute, after which Grimshaw had a go but failed to keep her shot down (86'). Boosted by the positive impact of the substitutes, the Rossonere were putting plenty of moves together but lacking a finishing touch in the final third. After four minutes of stoppage time, the match finished 0-0 in Seregno.
