ROSSONERE BEATEN BY FIORENTINA IN INJURY TIME: 1-0

Mijatović's 92nd minute goal spells defeat for AC Milan on Matchday 6 of Serie A

AC Milan suffered a surprise from Fiorentina deep in recovery time after a game of battles and sacrifices: 1-0 the final score. A goal from Mijatović secured the hosts 3 points on Matchday 6 of the Women’s Serie A at the end of a game of two halves. AC Milan wanted consistency after the 4-goal win over Pomigliano but the Viola were out for revenge after the defeat suffered the last time they faced the Rossonere in the league. The first half evidenced AC Milan’s increased awareness and confidence, whilst they suffered against a refreshed home side in the second half. The goal came for the hosts right when a draw seemed the most certain outcome.

AC Milan was dynamic enough to have worried the Viola on numerous restarts in the first 45 minutes, without being efficient in the final third. Ganz’s backline handled the Fiorentina offence well before the last-minute goal. The Rossonere’s unbeaten streak at the Tuscany ground has ended at 5 matches. However, morale cannot drop as the schedule sees the Rossonere in action again right away with a chance to get back to winning ways: at the PUMA House of Football, AC Milan will host Sassuolo in the game scheduled for Saturday 11 November. Forza ragazze!

MATCH REPORT
It was AC Milan who had more territory and showed more enterprise in a start characterised by few opportunities. The first chance of the match came in the 19th minute when Vigilucci diverted Bergamaschi's cross over the crossbar. The match came to life after that. In the 22nd minute, Catena miscontrolled Eržen's fine cross, and at the opposite end, Dompig unleashed a left-footed shot from the edge of the box. Play continued back-and-forth, first Cernoia's free-kick attempt (25'), then Lundin's close-range header that went over(28'). The Rossoneri pushed again on the half-hour mark and came close to scoring with Dompig's right-footed shot, held by Baldi, after a fine exchange between Grimshaw and Stašková. 0-0 at the break.

Fiorentina started off strong in the second half. In the 49th minute, Catena struck the crossbar from Agard’s pass, before then stealing the ball from Swaby and forcing Giuliani into action. The Rossonero number 1 continued to impress, saving 2 more chances for the Rossonere, first Toniolo’s effort from around the penalty spot (50’), then Lundin’s header (51’). The Rossonere held their ground but struggled to respond. In the 64th minute, Catena played it through for Severini who shot with little accuracy from close range. AC Milan relied on Staškova’s physicality to try and get ahead, threatening with two headers in the 67th and 80th minute, without hitting the target. Just as the draw seemed inevitable, disaster struck. A deep cross from Eržen surprised the Rossonere in the 92nd minute, Mijatović was in the right place at the right time to convert. 1-0 full time.
