AC MILAN BEATEN 1-0 BY ATALANTA

Cortinovis' goal at Vismara dampens a good Primavera performance

A real shame. The opposition were of a really high class, the reigning champions, but AC Milan Primavera were their equals and it was an even contest for the majority of the match. At Vismara, on matchday 2 of the competition, Atalanta won 1-0 thanks to Cortinovis' goal in the 63rd minute. The Rossoneri did well to avoid any major issues. They deserve praise for their approach and a generally fluid team performance. Coach Giunti's boys were full of conviction and caused a lot of problems for the away side. There was, however, a lack of clear-cut chances to score, though they did come close as Tonin hit the crossbar. The Rossoneri are sure to regret the mistake, which gifted Atalanta the only goal of the game in a key moment. They did not deserve to lose their first home game in Primavera 1. Defeat could have been avoided but overall there were a lot of positive signs. This loss is now behind us and Giunti's side can look forward to heading to Monza for the second round of the Primavera TIM Cup on Wednesday 30 September (15:00 CEST).

MATCH REPORT

The Rossoneri began on the front foot, but the away side withstood the storm and created their own attacking opportunities. Sidibe hit the bar at the ten-minute mark after a bit of chaos in the box. This first scare provoked a brilliant response from the home side, with Capone's left-footed shot going just over the bar (12'). After quarter of an hour, Tonin struck the crossbar, an even more devastating miss because it was from closer range and Dajcar smothered Capone's attempt on the rebound. AC Milan again: Olzer picked up the ball in an open field after a good diagonal ball, but couldn't find the finish (22'). Atalanta then looked to strike; in the 26th minute, Jungdal denied Sidibe and then again on Gyabuaa (42'). All square at the break.
AC Milan began the second half with the same fluidity that they'd shown before the break. However, after wayward attemps from Capone and Mionić, the Nerazzurri from Bergamo unlocked the doors. In the 63rd minute, Atalanta captain Cortinovis grabbed the only goal of the game, finding space in the box and then slotting it into the bottom corner. The goal ended the match as a contest and, from then on, the Rossoneri struggled to create chances. Instead, they risked going two behind as Atalanta had chances through Cortinovis at the edge of the box (79') and Carrà from a wide position (85'). AC Milan attempt to, rather timidly, force the equaliser but it was not enough. 1-0 to Atalanta at full time.
