Good games ending in draws do exist. And that's exactly what the draw in the derby was for the Under 18s. "I couldn't wait to step up and take the penalty," said Mattia Malaspina, captain of the side, who placed the ball on the spot and found the back of the net in a pressure moment in the final stages of the game.
The Rossoneri had been trailing from the first half, but were playing well after the break, so much so that the desire to score prevailed over the pressure of taking the penalty kick in the 82nd minute, in what had been a complicated home derby game up to that point. "I didn't hesitate, I tried to remain as calm as possible after a strong group performance full of character and togetherness, I'm very happy and we're satisfied."
The way in which AC Milan fought back against Inter highlighted the best bits about Coach Terni's group; they were focused, organised, dogged, and showed grit and a fighting spirit, full of sacrifice, to never give up and bounce back from the moments that put them on the back foot in the game (like conceding the goal). The draw was well-deserved though, and maybe on the balance of play could have been more: "We're a bit disappointed, Malaspina admitted, but the performance was good. Thanks to our attitude, we showed that we're growing and improving."
The numbers and stats back it up: the U18s remain in second place with 12 points, alongside the Nerazzurri but behind leaders SPAL, and have the best defence in the league with only five goals conceded. This coming weekend the lads travel to Venezia to continue the excellent season they are having.
