Italy beat Bosnia 0-2 (led on the bench by the great former Rossoneri player Chicco Evani), which gifted them a ticket to the final phase of the UEFA Nations League (6-10 October 2021), in which France, Spain and Belgium will also participate. Goals from Belotti and Berardi gave the Azzurri, who were unbeaten in the group, their second consecutive victory after their 2-0 victory in Reggio Emilia against Poland. Gigio Donnarumma enjoyed the full 90 minutes on the pitch and kept a clean sheet. Romagnoli and Tonali remained on the bench, with Calabria coming on in the latter stages of the match. Rade Krunić came onto the pitch in the 71st minute for Bosnia, but could do nothing to prevent his side from being relegated to League B.
Captain Gabbia was rested, (being left out of the match squad altogether) after two consecutive games, during the Italian U21 team’s 4-1 victory against Sweden. Lorenzo Colombo had been called up for the side's final match but saw no action.
Portugal U21 won 2-1 against Holland. Both teams, like Italy, had already qualified for the final phase of Euro 2021. Rafael Leão, was brought on at the beginning of the second half only to be substituted in the 83rd minute, whilst Diogo Dalot remained on the bench.
It was a bitter defeat for Çalhanoğlu's Turkey against Hungary: 2-0 for the Magyars, with Hakan playing the full 90 minutes. Turkey have thus been relegated to League C in the Nations League. Denmark, captained by Simon Kjær, lost 4-2 to Belgium, although the Danes will remain in League A anyway. Finally, the match between Tătăruşanu’s Romania and Northern Ireland finished 1-1. Romania will remain in League B.
