Luka Modrić scores to help Croatia win. At the Stadion Anđelko Herjavec in Varaždin, the Croatians defeated Slovenia 2-1 in a friendly as they continue their build-up to their World Cup opener against England on 17 June. Luka opened the scoring with a strike from the edge of the box, before Sporar levelled the match in the 83rd minute. The winner came in the 93rd minute from Pasalic.
Elsewhere, Ecuador enjoyed a convincing 3-0 win over Guatemala in another friendly. Pervis Estupiñan impressed throughout and capped his performance with a superb third goal, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper from long range after spotting him off his line. The result builds momentum ahead of their World Cup opener on 15 June against Ivory Coast.
It was also a solid night for Davide Bartesaghi, who started again and played the full 90 minutes in Italy’s 'experimental' side under coach Baldini. Italy beat Greece 1-0 to wrap up their latest friendly run, following another narrow win over Luxembourg.
