Our Women’s First Team kicked off their season today behind closed doors at the Sportpark De Toekomst in Amsterdam, as they faced up against Ajax in a prestigious international friendly which ended in a 5-0 win for the Rossonere. AC Milan, playing with their new shirt sponsor of Banco BPM for the very first time, threatened right from the off, finding their first goal of the season after just five minutes of play thanks to a Natasha Dowie shot from the edge of the area. The Rossonere then found a second in the 22nd minute, with captain Valentina Giacinti making the most of a defensive error and slotting the ball home from midway into the opposition half.
Coach Maurizio Ganz’s side began the second half in similar style, soon finding three more goals on the day, with Dowie netting two more for her first AC Milan hat-trick in the 70th and 84th minute, and Kuliš heading home a Tucceri Cimini corner in between in minute 78. Ganz made various changes to his team during the game, using all of the players at his disposal as Piazza and Babb came on in goal, Spinelli came on for Agard, Kuliš replaced Jane, Mauri for Longo, Tamborini for Grimshaw, and Rizza, finally back after a long time out, came on to replace Bergamaschi.
A resounding success which also saw the new arrivals slot in well to the group. Here was our starting XI for the game: Korenciova; Bergamaschi, Fusetti, Agard, Tucceri Cimini; Conc, Jane, Grimshaw; Longo; Giacinti, Dowie.
