BERGAMASCHI AND TUCCERI CIMINI: 2-0 AGAINST FIORENTINA

A goal in either half at Vismara and the Rossonere are back to winning ways and into third

The Rossonere are back to winning ways after going over a month without a victory in the league and have now moved into third in the table, overtaking Sassuolo. On matchday 18, AC Milan beat Fiorentina 2-0 at Vismara thanks to goals on either side of halftime from Bergamaschi and Tucceri Cimini. Captain Valentina has now been involved in four goals in her last seven Serie A appearances, while it was Linda's first league goal at home since January 2020, and she also provided the assist for the opener today. It wasn't a spectacular game but one, in which the Rossonere showed great spirit and organisation.

Ganz's side stuck at the right moments and kept a clean sheet as they never really looked in trouble. Our girls can now smile again at a tricky but important stage of the season. Among the good news, we also have the return of Piemonte. The Rossonere are now on 37 points and have claimed third place after Sassuolo lost to Roma, who are still in the driving seat for second place and Champions League qualification. Next weekend, on Sunday 3 April at 14:30 CEST, the Rossonere travel to Empoli.

REPORT
Maurizio Ganz made more adjustments to positioning than he made personnel changes. AC Milan started strongly and came close to taking an early lead when Guagni headed over the bar from Tucceri Cimini's cross (7'). Another cross from Linda, in the 22nd minute, helped AC Milan to get their noses in front; Schroffenegger couldn't get to the ball and Bergamaschi was on hand to turn it home. Chances were few and far between and while Fiorentina did grow into the game, they only forced Giuliani into one save, which was relatively easy as our shot-stopper got her hands to Breitner's deflected effort (27'). 1-0 at the break.

The substitutes made all the difference after the break as Piemonte and Boureille came on to great effect. The game remained hard-fought and there were barely any noteworthy effort. Martina had a go in the 70th minute but saw her shot blocked. The Diavolo kept up the intensity and, in the 75th, spurned a brilliant chance to double their lead through Bergamaschi, who couldn't get on the end of Thomas' ball into the box. Mascarello sent her free-kick high (80') before Piemonte fired off-target (82'). AC Milan did eventually get their second. In the 87th minute, Tucceri Cimini latched onto the loose ball in the box and smashed it home to make it 2-0. Codina was then sent off in the 89th minute for a second bookable offence. Full time.
