THE PRIMAVERA PROGRESS IN THE COPPA ITALIA

The Rossoneri beat Sampdoria 3-2 to progress to the round of 16, where they'll meet Empoli

After their 2-1 victory in the league, AC Milan Primavera also got the better of Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia. In the round of 32, the Rossoneri ran out 3-2 winners in Bogliasco thanks to goals from Martinazzi, Traorè (penalty) and Perrucci. Abate's side had to come from behind to do so, with the team drawing level in the first half and moving clear after the restart. It was a good afternoon and an effective performance where the lads carried over their good form from the Primavera 1 division.

Sampdoria, with home advantage, wanted to gain revenge for their recent defeat. However, the Rossoneri, as hungry as ever, didn't allow it, despite the Head Coach making changes to the line-up. AC Milan continue to find the net: in addition to the 18 goals they've scored in Primavera 1, they now have ten to their name in the Coppa Italia. Having eliminated Virtus Entella and Samp so far, the Diavolo are set to meet Empoli away from home in the round of 16 in December. The Azzurri, who are currently in the playoff zone, will also be the Rossoneri's opponents in the league at the weekend: the match is scheduled for 13:00 CET on Saturday 4 November in Tuscany. Keep it going, boys, one step at a time.

MATCH REPORT
There wasn't much goalmouth action in the opening quarter of an hour. However, in one of the first real attacks of the game, Sampdoria took the lead through Conti's low strike on the 16-minute mark. A reaction was needed and Traorè scored from a Sala assist in the 25th minute, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside. However, the equaliser arrived six minutes later as Martinazzi fired home from inside the box. The same player could have scored his and the team's second in the 36th minute - with the goal at his mercy, he slipped just as he was about to shoot - and again three minutes later, but he couldn’t quite convert Traorè's cross with his head. After the hosts had come close in the 44th minute, the two sides went into the break on level terms.

The second half kicked off and Traorè shot through Scardigno's legs, but he was once again denied by the offside flag. There was a big scare in the 55th minute: Ntanda hit the bar from close range, with the ball bouncing down onto the line. Then, with 64 minutes on the clock, the Rossoneri struck: Perrucci was fouled in the box and Traorè stepped up to send Scardigno the wrong way from the penalty spot, meaning he could finally celebrate. The Diavolo kept on pushing and extended their lead on the 71-minute mark thanks to Perrucci's right-footed curler from distance. In the closing stages, after attempts from Djalti and Ntanda (85' and 86'), Leonardi reduced the arrears with a free-kick in stoppage time. It came too late, however, and the full-time whistle was blown.
