A magical night. On the day the football year traditionally signs off, 30 June, the third Scudetto for AC Milan was won. After the first-team and boy’s Under-15 squads brought home the title, it was the girls Under-17s' turn to lift the female youth setup's first-ever tricolore; the honour being given to captain Valentina Donolato.
It was a thoroughly deserved win at the “Romagna Centre” in Cesena, beating Juventus 3-0 with all the goals coming from an unstoppable Maria Vittoria Cappa. She opened up in style in the 41st minute to break the deadlock – a half-volley anticipating the onrushing keeper – with the other two coming from the deadly striker at the end of the second half (33’ and 46’) to seal the victory in what was a finely-balanced game.

It is a success that has been awarded by the growth of young group, who for the most part are ‘under-age’, due to being born in 2006 and later - for this category, squads are usually formed from girls born in 2005, a year older - with some players even having reached the Primavera squad of Coach Conti, for example, Monica Renzotti - scorer of the history-making goal against Juventus in October – or Letizia Rossi, in goal in the Scudetto semi-final against Roma. We mustn’t forget also the match-winner from yesterday, Maria Vittoria Cappa, who also saw her twin sister Aurora on the sub’s bench yesterday.
It was a glorious year for De Martino’s girls who, after a good run in the regionale and interregionale stages of the competition, have taken revenge for the two derby defeats earlier on in the season, winning the two-legged quarter-final tie against Inter. The journey ended with the Scudetto Final Four, beating Pink Sport Time 7-0 in the semi-final, that has undoubtedly given the group a bright future and who will be looking to be contenders in the Primavera next season. It’s a another piece of history to be written for the Rossoneri youth system.
