Six was the magic number for AC Milan Women today, with the Rossonere scoring six goals through six different goalscorers to pick up their sixth win of the season away from Vismara. Indeed, in their first Women’s Serie A match in 2022, Coach Ganz’s girls beat bottom-of-the-table Hellas Verona 6-0 on the road. There were many excellent performances that contributed to the victory, including those produced by Lindsey Thomas, who, in addition to scoring, provided two assists, and Alia Guagni, who bagged her first AC Milan goal. However, even those who didn’t find the net played their part, with Sara Thrige finishing the match with three assists and Guðný Árnadóttir putting in an excellent display, including in attack.
The team’s first league fixture of the year couldn’t have gone better, then, with the Rossonere involved in a thrilling four-way battle for a Champions League spot. Next up for AC Milan is a double-header against Sampdoria: after meeting in the league on Sunday 23rd January at Vismara (matchday 13), the two sides will face each other again on 30 January – this time in Bogliasco – in the first leg of their quarter-final Coppa Italia showdown. Come on, girls!

REPORT
Coach Ganz made a number of changes to the side that started in the Supercup final: the backline consisted of Guagni, Fusetti and Árnadóttir, while Thrige and Longo took to the pitch from the first minute. The Rossonere immediately went on the front foot and had chances through Grimshaw and Bergamaschi before the latter opened the scoring in the twelfth minute: Thomas’ assist was fantastic, and Valentina let fly with a right-footed strike that left Håland with no chance. After opportunities for Thomas (15’) and Grimshaw (16’), AC Milan killed off the match in the space of three minutes: first, Longo finished off another Thomas assist after Árnadóttir had hit the bar (26’); then, Guagni scored her first for the Club following a corner (29’). Ganz’s warriors netted their fourth before the break as Tucceri Cimini volleyed home Thrige’s cross (37’).
The Rossonere scored their fifth of the game soon after the restart, with Thomas rising highest to send Thrige’s corner into the net. In the 56th minute, Árnadóttir’s long-range effort was kept out by Håland, who, however, wasn’t able to stop Stapelfeldt from becoming the sixth goalscorer of the day after 64 minutes. Indeed, Nina, who had entered the fray alongside Selimhodzic a few minutes earlier, supplied the finish following another assist from Thrige (her third of the day). AC Milan sought to add to their tally in the closing stages, with Piemonte, on as a substitute, looking particularly threatening, while Coach Ganz also gave runouts to the youngsters Cortesi and Miotto. It finished in a 6-0 win.
