    MILANLAB

Since 2002, AC Milan's centre of excellence and the core of its sports‑medicine innovation

    WHAT MILANLAB IS

MilanLab is the centre of excellence and the core of innovation in research and development applied to performance and sports medicine within the Rossoneri Club. Historically renowned for having revolutionised the entire football sector with its pioneering, data‑driven approach, it has evolved over the years by adopting an increasingly scientific methodology aimed at optimising the use of medical and performance data for the management of athletes. Today, MilanLab continues to perfectly embody the spirit of a Club capable of leading change while remaining true to its values and identity.

    METHODOLOGY AND HISTORY OF MILANLAB

Founded in 2002 from an innovative idea by Jean-Pierre Messerman, and with Daniele Tognaccini playing a key role in its development, MilanLab represented a true revolution within the football sector, paving the way for an advanced approach to athlete management through a holistic philosophy centred on wellbeing and prevention, which quickly became an international point of reference. Following a substantial global renewal process undertaken in 2021, MilanLab has strengthened its scientific character through an increasingly research‑driven and evidence‑based approach, which now serves as a key foundation for the collection, analysis and utilisation of medical and performance data relating to AC Milan's male and female athletes - from the First Teams to the Milan Futuro Project and the Youth Sector - in support of daily operations. This methodological framework, based on objective analysis and international scientific evidence, continues to gain solidity thanks to a constant increase in the data collected, enabling the definition of guidelines that ensure continuous updating, sharing and comparison.

RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC & SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATIONS

MilanLab's vision also takes shape through applied research, internal scientific activity, and international exchange via numerous scientific collaborations, as well as participation in leading industry congresses. The connection with universities allows MilanLab to be at the centre of a dense network of training and development initiatives at both national and international levels, including the organisation of scientific events and the placement of interns, PhD candidates, young researchers, and sector experts supporting research projects dedicated to continuous applied development in the fields of performance and medicine.

SCIENTIFIC OUTPUT, RESEARCH INITIATIVES AND TRAINING SINCE 2021

    • Over 20 peer‑reviewed publications in national and international scientific journals
    • More than 50 invitations to conferences and other sector events nationally and internationally
