Cusano Milanino (MI)
Launched by Gipo Viani as a very young talent, Giovani Trapattoni was one of the fundamental pillars of Nereo Rocco’s Milan, who deployed him as a midfielder to win the ball and play it forward. He displayed exceptional man-marking skills all over the field, in particular on Pelé, Sivori and Suárez. His masterpiece was the European Champion Clubs’ Cup final in 1963 when after controlling Bénitez in the first few moments; he went on dealing with Eusebio, making him actually disappear from the game. In 14 seasons he won 2 league titles, an Italian Cup, two European Champion Clubs’ Cups, a European Cup Winners’ Cup and an Intercontinental Cup.
