The International Week of Deaf People was established 65 years ago by the World Federation of the Deaf with the aim of raising awareness of deafness and sign language, as well as demanding equal rights and opportunities for all deaf people.
To celebrate this important anniversary, AC Milan invited a group of fans from Ente Nazionale Sordi (the National Board of Deaf People) for a special visit to the Mondo Milan Museum. Accompanied by sign language interpreters trained by the same organisation, the guests immersed themselves in a journey through history and emotion to discover the Club's 120 years of history, including memorabilia, trophies and testimonies of the champions who wrote that history themselves.
At the end of the visit, the delegation continued their morning at the Casa Milan Store, a point of reference in the Rossoneri headquarters for the purchase of official Club and PUMA merchandising, capsule collections, accessories and much more. Finally, they visited the Casa Milan Bistrot, a restaurant in the heart of the AC Milan universe, where they were able to enjoy a free breakfast.
"We're happy to welcome our fans from the Ente Nazionale Sordi", said Martino Roghi, CSR & Sustainability Manager of AC Milan, "and to celebrate the International Week of Deaf People together with them. For years, the Club and ENS have been treading a shared path to ensure ever greater accessibility and inclusiveness for all, guaranteeing, for example, the simultaneous translation into LIS (Italian Sign Language) of all of Pioli's pre-match press conferences."
Renzo Corti, President of the Lombardy Regional Council of Ente Nazionale Sordi, added: "Once again, AC Milan shows attention to the Deaf community by renewing the invitation to visit the beautiful Museum at Casa Milan, and does so to celebrate a significant moment for us: 'The International Week of Deaf People'. One of our groups will have the opportunity to visit the Museum with a guide, assisted by a Sign Language interpreter. The 2023/24 season will once again see the translation into LIS of the Mister's pre-match press conferences, and we have many other ideas to make this precious collaboration between Ente Nazionale Sordi Lombardia and AC Milan, now in its fourth year of renewal, more and more concrete. Thank you on behalf of all Deaf fans."
The initiative is part of the 'AC Milan for All' programme, through which the Club is committed to making its events and its physical and digital spaces increasingly inclusive and accessible. Already in the past season, the Museum – open every day from 10am to 7pm – contributed to this aim by organising dedicated tours on the occasion of World Sight Day and the International Day of People with Disabilities.
