When I was 8, I lived in Argentina, and on the afternoon of 8 October 1969, I had to watch the game alone as my father was at work. Despite being born abroad, my Italian roots were starting to come through: as the match kicked off I officially became a Milanista. I couldn’t wait for the return match, I was definitely going to watch that one with my father. I still remember it as if it were yesterday: the two of us sat on the sofa, father and son, side-by-side, the black-and-white TV in our living room. Then the manhunt began. A game that has gone in history for the violence the Estudiantes players wrought upon ours and courage with which our lads held their ground. In the end, through blood, sweat and tears, we claimed our first Intercontinental Cup.
