OP-ED: SAN SIRO IN MY FATHER'S ARMS

Simona and her first time at San Siro with hre dad, ACMilan v Foggia 1995

I've always been a Milanista. I treasure the video of me from when I was asked who my favourite player was when I was about 3. I was tiny in my AC Milan jersey but I had no doubt: Paolo Maldini. I was only 4 when I went to the stadium for the first time. My dad had brought me and we'd snuck into the Curva where my aunt had a season ticket. The match was against Foggia in May 1995. My dad had called it a derby due to the similar shirts. We won 3-nil. I don't really remember much aside from sitting on my father's lap and being thrown into the air every time we scored or came close. But I still remember the joy of that day. Thank you, dad.

There are many details we store away unconsciously on such days: the sounds, the smells, the little details. The elements that make up a cherished memory like the first time at San Siro. Your tale of your first time brings us all back to our own. Thank you, Simona!
