The second leg at the San Siro will be the one to settle Lazio v AC Milan in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia after Tuesday’s first affair finished 0-0. It was a very tactical encounter at the Stadio Olimpico, with both teams well aware of the silverware potentially at stake. The Rossoneri were certainly not at their best, yet there were still a number of positives to be taken – one being the ongoing defensive solidity that has defined the team of late. Specifically, it has been during this domestic cup competition that the Diavolo have really shone at the back, keeping a clean sheet in all three of their matches so far. As for the Rossoneri’s next test, they’ll be in action on Saturday evening against Sassuolo at the San Siro with the aim of maintaining their good run of recent form.

    THE REPORT

The deadlock that encapsulated the game was present right from the off, with both teams studying each other closely and playing patiently. The first chance of the match fell to Lazio in the 25th minute, with Patric picking up possession and shooting wide of the post. Just two minutes later Immobile also had a chance on goal, although he couldn’t find the target. With Lazio still on the front foot, it was then the turn of Milinkovic-Savic to threaten in the 37th minute, whose powerful effort flew wide. Following the interval, Lazio retained the majority of possession while Milan continued to look for chances on the counter. However, in contrast to the first 45, opportunities were few and far between in the second period. The game’s final act saw a chance for Piatek after a cross from Borini, although his wayward header failed to threaten Strakosha.
