Sometimes you just need to play before you have the chance to adapt to a new Club. It happens in very rare cases, perhaps out of necessity or perhaps out of choice. Whatever the reason, it's certainly synonymous with strength and experience because, in the end, the language of football is universal. Then there will be time to get to know your new reality - the Italian reality, the reality of Serie A. This applies to Verónica Boquete, AC Milan's final signing of the transfer window. There wasn't even a week between the announcement of her arrival and a competitive debut for Spain's highest-ever goalscorer. She put in a great performance in her first game, starting at Vismara against Roma.
She played as a mezzala against Roma in the league and as a trequartista against Orobica in the Coppa Italia, and Vero has already shown her extraordinary technique and ability to read the game. Boquete is not just a top player, she is a real icon of women's football, which she is committed to proving in person through her collaboration with FIFA and UEFA. Then there's the human aspect, which can see you become a champion beyond the titles won on the pitch (including a Champions league). She, along with other players, donates 1% of her own wages to a foundation which uses the popularity of football around the world to achieve United Nations goals. A record-breaking career from Spain to the USA, which has now brought her to Italy. A signing to be proud of.
The Coppa Italia also gave us a chance to see Julia Simic, another summer signing brought in to bolster the Diavolo's midfield. She players alongside Vero but has vastly differing characteristics. Born in 1989, the German started against Cesena and Orobica, getting some much-needed minutes in the legs. Dynamic, reactive, brave, Simic arrived before Boquete, meaning she had more time to get acquainted with her new surroundings, despite being forced to wait in the wings as she recovered from a knee injury. Gym work is now behind her and her real AC Milan adventure has begun.
They've already had a positive impact, which will surely grow throughout the season. Both Julia and Vero, speaking to Milan TV, shared various ideas: "We're here to improve the team, there's great team spirit in this group. Maurizio Ganz gives us energy and passion. We want to give our all and reach our goals." They do not lack for personality and ambition.
