Two wins, three defeats: this is the AC Milan Primavera’s record after their first five league matches of the season. It’s been a strange campaign so far, with the league being halted between October and January and only resuming a couple of weeks ago. Following their comfortable victory over Lazio on their return to action, the Rossoneri have had the wind taken out of their sails somewhat following an undeserved loss to Torino.

It’s difficult to read too much into the league at this point, mainly due to the fact that there’s such a disparity in terms of games played. This ranges from the seven fixtures Roma have been involved in to the four times that Inter have taken to the pitch. The action-packed schedule will soon see parity restored in this regard, after which it’ll be easier to assess things. Currently sitting top of the pile are Roma, who have scored an impressive 21 goals so far. They’ve won six out of seven matches, with their only setback coming in a defeat to SPAL.

The newly promoted team from Ferrara are currently the surprise package: they’re unbeaten in third with eleven points from five matches and have taken some impressive scalps, beating Inter and, as previously mentioned, Roma. Things haven’t gone quite so well for Ascoli, another new team in the division, who are yet to pick up a point from five outings. Also notable is the fact that Atalanta and Cagliari, who finished first and second respectively last season, have made slow starts, with both having collected just four points from five matches.

As for Coach Giunti’s AC Milan side, they are undoubtedly making progress in terms of how they’re playing and the character they’re displaying, although they do need to work on their consistency and becoming more ruthless in front of goal.  There’s still a long way to go, and the Diavolo’s desire to make their mark certainly isn’t lacking. On Saturday, they’ll be looking to bounce back against SPAL.
