AC Milan v Sassuolo isn’t the only game that is coming up: this weekend will see all four of the return-leg fixtures for the Women’s Coppa Italia quarter-finals take place, with the competition looking for a new queen after the crown was left unclaimed in the 2019/20 season.

Out of all the first-leg encounters, the match between the Rossonere and the Neroverdi was the only one that ended in a draw: Juventus, Roma and Inter will face off against Empoli, Florentia and Fiorentina in the knowledge that they’re the favourites to progress to the semi-finals.

The Giallorosse are in the best position after cruising to a 4-0 victory against Florentia in San Gimignano. Elisabetta Bavagnoli’s team are aiming to make it through to the semi-finals for a third consecutive year: last season, they were the only team to qualify for the last four before football was suspended due to COVID-19. Inter will also be feeling confident after beating Fiorentina 2-0 in the first-leg showdown between the sides. However, the Nerazzurre definitely won’t be able to rest on their laurels: they’re up against a strong side that are nine points and four places ahead of them in the Serie A table.

The first-leg clash between Empoli and Juventus was certainly an exciting affair: the Bianconere scored three times in the final 15 minutes, coming from 4-2 down to win 5-4 on the road. They’ll be looking to secure qualification in Vinovo on Saturday afternoon, when the first of the return fixtures will be played. We could end up with two ‘big name’ semi-finals, at least given the prestige of the respective male sides.
