A season starting in the month of April is certainly unusual but, in teams like these, it's an unexpected gift. The Rossoneri's U17 side are taking great strides towards their first competitive fixtures of the season, which will be played in an entirely new format (we talk about it here). Lantignotti's boys have been waiting for this moment for months and, on Sunday 11 April, they are finally back in action - against Cremonese at Vismara. We spoke to Coach Lantignotti, who told us about the emotions and motivation with just a few days until kick-off.
Where we left off. "We played our last game in the league on 18 October 2020 against Vicenza (matchday 4), then the competition was suspended. It was a complicated year for everything that we know. In terms of us, it's been difficult due to missed training sessions and a suspended league season, which meant we couldn't see these players grow by playing games, where it really counts on a level of development. That said, there is a healthy and fighting spirit. This group is tight-knit and wants to get back to playing games. We recently played a test game and now, we have our first competitive game in a few months. What counts for us is that they develop technically."
Ready for the restart: "We have eight games ahead of us between home and away games; I think the new format is exciting. Each game is vital and this will see the boys make some big strides forward in terms of growth. Our expectation is to see the good things, which the boys produced in some great performances. I hope they can rediscover that form. If a great game is accompanied by a result, even better. Using that as a base, however, there's a lot of curiosity as to how each player can grow in terms of technique and personality."
Trust in the squad: "The group has got down to business straight away with a lot of desire to train and prepare. All of the lads have shown a great attitude; the rhythm of the games will be different but I've seen a lot of dedication in each training session."
