CONTINUITY AMONG THE NEW

Eleven new signings, a whole line-up. So far the Rossonere have shuffled their team’s cards, strengthening in every department in light of a very important season, which will see them soon competing in the Champions League for the first time. But, meanwhile, they have chosen to consolidate the team’s continuity. For now, these are the five who have renewed their contracts: Valentina Giacinti, Mária Korenčiová, Refiloe Jane, Christy Grimshaw and Vero Boquete.

"I’m proud to wear this shirt and to continue defending our colours”, said the captain, displaying all the sense of belonging to a group, ready to wear the armband for the third consecutive year. She has signed until 2024 and will lead the group towards ambitious collective and personal goals (to date she has scored 55 goals in 72 official appearances). From Sabatino to Thorvaldsdottir and Dowie – the teammates change but Giacinti remains a fixed point in attack.

Korenčiová, like Valentina, is one of the players who have worn the AC Milan shirt since the team’s inception. The Slovakian has always been the starting goalkeeper and during the 2021/22, which has already started, she will be joined by newcomers Laura Giuliani and Noemi Fedele. Jane, on the other hand, joined the Rossoneri family in 2019/20. The South African has immediately taken over the reins in directing the midfield with intelligence and discipline, and marks a certainty in a midfield that is constantly changing at a technical-tactical level.

In reference to just the midfield, Grimshaw and also Vero have been valuable assets last season in reaching an historic second place in the league and the final of the Italian Cup; the Spanish champion, in particular, has raised the quality of the team. Their experience will be fundamental in welcoming the newcomers, to facilitate Coach Ganz's work and to keep the environment compact. Now the Rossonere will face Atletico Madrid on Sunday 8 August at 20.00 CEST, after the friendly against Olimpija Ljubljana, in a fascinating and challenging test.
