The break has put a pause to the Rossonere's good form. Over the first month and a half of 2022, AC Milan Women have played seven and won six and only lost in the Supercoppa final against Juventus after having been a player light for the best part of the 90 minutes. The Rossonere will now have a rest before getting back to work in the big match against Sassuolo on 26 February.
The break will help us to analyse the progress made over the first few weeks of the calendar year, which have thrown up a few interesting stats. From the start of January to today, Ganz's side have scored 24 goals in seven games in all competitions. That's an average of almost 3.5 goals per game but what's even more surprising is the Rossonere's capacity to spread the goals around the squad.
Ten players have scored for the Rossonere in 2022 and the goals are almost equally divided between the players, especially in attack. Lindsey Thomas leads the way with five, while Stapelfeldt, Longo, Piemonte and Bergamaschi are level on three apiece. So we players chipping in with goals who perhaps didn't feature too much in the first portion of the season. This is exemplified by the performances of Longo and Stapelfeldt, who are making immense contributions at the moment.
Coach Ganz can, therefore, be mightily satisfied as they can approach their next game with confidence and conviction; a win against Sassuolo would put the Rossonere ahead in the fight for second place behind Juventus. There's a lot of competition but this AC Milan side need not fear anybody.
