The first seven games of 2022 couldn’t have gone better for AC Milan’s U17s, who started the year with seven straight victories. Then came a 1-1 draw with Brescia - a point that was rescued late on thanks to a goal from Perrucci - and a 1-0 home defeat to SPAL, results which threatened to halt their momentum. However, during the weekend just gone, Lantignotti’s side returned to winning ways, comfortably beating Pordenone 3-0 on the road. Perrucci, Rossi and Benedetti found the net.
The Rossoneri sit top of the league, two points ahead of Atalanta (who have a game in hand, against Brescia) and four in front of Inter, who they recently beat in the derby. With three matchdays to go, the objective is to finish in the top two. This is because the first- and second-place sides from every division qualify directly for the quarter-finals of the end-of-season play-offs.
The U17s continue to display their quality, with the team having been in the upper echelons of the table since the start of the season. Goals have come from various players, starting with Federico Mangiameli, who has 13 to his name. Behind him are Perrucci on nine, Longhi on eight and Zeroli on seven. The Diavolo have the second-best attack in the league (61), with Inter (67) leading the way in this regard.
The team’s next opponents are Cagliari, Udinese and Cittadella, the final three matches of the regular season. They’re fixtures that the Rossoneri can’t afford to get wrong with the play-offs in mind. They’ve enjoyed an excellent 2022 so far, and they’re hoping that something big is around the corner.
