A 17th win for the Rossoneri and Longhi's twelfth league goal this season saw AC Milan U17 mathematically wrap up first place in group B and secure a direct spot in the quarter-finals. It being with a game to spare is even sweeter.
After the late win away at bottom-of-the-table Udinese, the Rossoneri beat out fierce opposition in Atalanta and Inter to finish top (12 points from a possible 12 against matches against the two Nerazzurri teams this season). Coach Lantignotti was over the moon: "We're all really pleased. We had a tough group with some good teams and it was never certain that we'd finish top. Congrats to the boys because they have shown constant improvement, both in terms of technique and character, and they really deserve this."
From the hard work done by the whole team to the quality of the players, our U17s have had a brilliant campaign. Only Roma have taken more points than AC Milan at this level in Italy (61 points to our 60). "We've been together since 10 August," Lantignotti explained. "Since then until now, we've had a great run with some brilliant performances. The 2005s, as well as others, had a particularly tough year before this one due to Covid, and when you're thrown back into a full season it's not always easy to keep up this sort of level. We say constant growth."
Contentment and pride, but we're not done yet. The Rossoneri will, following the final matchday of the group against Cittadella in the last weekend of April, go into the playoffs as they compete for the Scudetto. "The quarter-finals will be a different feeling, with games that are must-win or we're out. We'll try to improve even more and give it our all because we want to go as far as possible."
