First place with 63 points from 26 games, the second-best attack and second-best defence in the group and a six-point advantage over second: the regular season has been a great one for the U17s, who are heading into the National Finals with the wind in their sails.
As we wait for the quarter-finals – the first leg will be played on the weekend of 21-22 May – let’s take a look at what Christian Lantignotti’s side have done so far. The Rossoneri achieved many important results in the first half of the season, from the win in the derby to resounding victories over Brescia (6-1) and Cagliari (6-0). However, they were also defeated by Vicenza and Pordenone and, with a couple of draws thrown in too, trailed first-place Inter by four points at the halfway stage.
The Rossoneri then took it up a gear at the start of 2022. Game by game, they displayed growth on a technical level, also thanks to the contribution of the staff members who helped the U17s reach the quarter-final stage of the Finals last year, that despite the problems brought about by the pandemic.
Between 30 January and 2 March, AC Milan recorded seven consecutive wins, including in the return derby showdown. This fantastic winning streak meant that they overtook the Nerazzurri in the table. The regular season ended with four successive victories, with the team scoring 16 and conceding three across these matches. This is further proof of the Diavolo’s continuous progress, and now the final stage of the season awaits.
