It's not just the eve of the first away game of the season, against Sampdoria, that will be on the minds of the AC Milan Primavera at this time. Coach Abate's boys are also waiting to find out the three teams who will be in their UEFA Youth League group, in a competition that sees the Under-19 side compete for the second consecutive year.
Like the Champions League for the senior teams, the UEFA youth tournament will have a particularly packed calendar which will see the group stage completed by the start of November, before the World Cup gets under way in Qatar. This will be a real tour de force for the Rossoneri Primavera in terms of matches played in the coming weeks.
After the trip to Sampdoria the first midweek game of the season will take place on Tuesday 30th at home against Cesena before a September that contains 2 games each in the Primavera 1 (Fiorentina and Cagliari) and the Youth League. It is then in October however, that the fixtures really start to pile up with games every three days for the Rossoneri youth.
Five league and three Youth League matches as well as the first Coppa Italia fixture against Spezia at Vismara (in the week beginning 17 October): nine matches that will require a great level of effort from Abate's boys who will play, in the month, more games than Pioli's first team squad. The constant cycle of games every three days will run until mid-November, before the long break for the World Cup: so many matches and so many chances for the young Rossoneri to develop.
