Oh how much Christy Grimshaw had been missed by AC Milan Women. Against Sassuolo the Scottish midfielder finally returned to the pitch after a long absence due to injury, immediately making an impact with a great goal at 2-0 against Sassuolo. An important shock to catalyse a season that had started in a difficult way for the Rossonere, who now look ahead to their upcoming fixtures against Parma and Sampdoria with renewed confidence.
The Kirkcaldy native had been absent from the pitch since last 3 April, the away win to Empoli which gave continuity to their unbeaten run at the start of 2022. A heavy absence for a player who, in the course of her seasons in Italy, has established herself as an important player in the ranks of Maurizio Ganz's team.
Arriving fairly quietly in the summer of 2021, Christy was a major player - in her first Rossoneri season - in Milan's historic qualification for the Women's Champions League, with two goals (a brace against San Marino) and a string of high-level performances in a midfield that went through several tactical variations over the course of the year. Grimshaw's performance in the Rossoneri also earned her first call-ups with the Scottish national team.
It was last season, however, that the Rossoneri number 11 made a further leap forward in her performances. A bond, between Grimshaw and the AC Milan world, which has grown as the months have passed, and which today sees her among the vocal leaders of the group. "As long as I can help everyone I'm happy, that's the important thing. I get on very well with the team, we just have to keep winning," said Christy after the win over Sassuolo, already starting the charge ahead of the upcoming engagements.
