Third place in Serie A for the First Team; a semi-final Scudetto (and victory in the Viareggio Youth Tournament) for the Primavera; a final for the title - losing out only on penalties - for the Under 17s, and League champions for the Under 15s. This is the 22/23 end of season review for AC Milan's Women's Sector, which ended in great fashion on Friday 30 June with llenia Prati's side becoming Champions of Italy. It's the second Scudetto for the Rossonere's women's squads after the Under 17s lifted the title last season. It's a sweet-tasting success, after beating Inter in the final, to cap off what has been a great season.
The girls won the derby 3-1, clinching victory in the second and third halves of play with goals from Di Falco, Strecapede and Tomaselli. They were excellent finishes that gave them the same scoreline win as in the Final Four against Napoli, which was held in Senigallia. It was a run that started off in the quarters with a win over last season's champions, Juventus, and is a demonstration of the group's continued growth in general, that has also seen some players step up to the Under 17s, who also have had an excellent year.
"We were motivated and fired up," said Coach Ilenia Prati post-match. "Last year, we didn't do as well as we could have done, but this year we have the right approach from both the players and staff. From 21 August to 30 June, the group of players have worked in a fantastic way to reach our objective. In the end, we've done it: what a feeling!" The Rossonere Coach also spoke about another important theme related to this year's Youth Sector.
"We are all working with the same key principles. If you work well then naturally the quality of players' levels rise, who can then go on to play on the highest stage." Important and clear messages, especially when considering the composition of the various squads. Seeing "under-age" players has been characteristic for this season's various squads, which will culminate with Giulia Semplici who will join the First Team in 2023/24 after going through the entire Rossonere Youth Sector. It's an AC Milan that is fastly moving forward.
