When you think of the Youth Sector, the first thing that may come to mind could be the sides involved in national competition: first the Primavera, but then also the U18, U17, U16 and U15. But another important part of the Rossoneri youth programme is the so-called Attività di Base, which involves the teams from the Under-8s, up to the Under-14s. At these age groups, the teams are playing competitively, but actually what is more important than the "final result", is their "development", to quote Vincenzo Vergine at the Coppa Italia Primavera Final.

With the beginning of the Summer upon us, the sporting calendar is coming to an end, and to summarise the 2024/25 season for the Rossoneri Attività di Base, we spoke to Lorenzo Mondini, the Attività di Base coordinator: "Our teams are coming into the most important stage of the season in terms of work. Some of them are coming back from international tournaments, like the Under-12s who were in Spain where they played big teams like Manchester City, Sporting Lisbon and Liverpool".

This is indeed a busy time for international tournaments, and Mondini emphasised the importance of upcoming commitments for our young sides during the Easter period: "The Under-10s will be in Portugal over Easter the Under-8s will be in Brussels and, right now, the Under-9s are in Barcelona for the Mundialito. These are great learning experiences for these young players, and they will help them in their growth and allow them to achieve what is currently a dream to them. We are responsible for helping them".

There are also those who have finished their season in the league - take the Under-13s for example who secured a great win in the Derby just last weekend - but "above the result, it was their hard work that earned them the win, and what really matters is that every player is taking big steps forward in all sorts of skill sets", stated Mondini. It is also worth mentioning another important part of preparing these young players for competitive football: the psychological side and a project like Milan Gentile, that the Club promotes by putting Fair Play at the heart of our youth player's development.
