    MILAN IN ACTION IN VALENCIA

One match in Europe followed then by the Audi Cup and another two fixtures in New Jersey and Miami. This was the Rossoneri’s schedule for the first edition of the International Champions Cupback in the summer of 2013. Milan had previously triumphed on 19 May 2013 in Siena to ensure their spot in the Champions League play-off against PSV Eindhoven and they wanted to prepare in the best possible fashion to get through to the group stage. Due to their double encounter against the Dutch outfit, Milan’s dealing in the transfer market were on hold. So much so that by 27 July 2013, during the Rossoneri’s ICC debut at the Mestalla in Spain, Massimiliano Allegri’s only new signing was Andrea Poli. With Saponara injured and Silvestre yet to arrive, Milan’s planning was clear: progress in the Champions League and then deal with the transfer market. In the meantime, they first had to overcome Djukic’s Valencia.

A ROSSONERI SURPRISE AT THE MESTALLA
In contrast to initial predictions for the match, Milan were impressive. Robinho initially fired the Rossoneri in front before Nigel De Jong then scored from long-range on his return from a six-month Achilles injury. The match eventually finished 2-1 to Allegri’s side, giving them a confidence boost ahead of their upcoming match against PSV on August 20th at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven. Following wins over Valencia and Los Angeles Galaxy at the ICC, as well as a defeat to Chelsea, the Rossoneri subsequently triumphed in the Champions League play-off thanks to a win and a draw.
