Gigi Lentini’s move to AC Milan in the hot summer of 1992 really got people talking. First it was on, then it wasn’t before the high fee for the forward from Carmagnola became a matter of controversy. Lentini was a Torino fan but did very well in his first year at AC Milan. Unfortunately, a road accident in Genoa in the summer of 1993 meant he struggled to reach his former heights after recovering from the injuries suffered.
The last meeting of Torino and AC Milan with Lentini as a Granata player was at the Stadio Dell Alpi on 25 April 1992. The Rossoneri side coached by Fabio Capello were close to mathematically sealing the Scudetto but were held to a 2-2 draw on that day. Lentini played for the full 90 minutes. The Granata went ahead twice before the Rossoneri equalised twice, first through Massaro and then Fuser.
It’s easy to image how Lentini felt in his first match for Milan, lining up away at Torino. The game itself was almost a copy of the season prior apart from the fact that it finished 1-1. Again in March 1993, Milan were top of the table and looking to mathematically seal the title and again it was Torino who scored first, through the former Rossoneri man Roberto Mussi. Then in the second half, Ruud Gullit equalised while Gigi played the full 90 for the Rossoneri.
There would be one more addition of Torino v AC Milan for Lentini. After the end of his time with the Rossoneri and following a year in Bergamo, he rejoined the Granata in Serie B. During the only year spent in Serie A of his second spell, Lentini played for Torino against Milan on 16 April 2000 which finished 2-2. Ambrosini opened the scoring, Pinga hit a brace before Guglielminpietro equalised for Milan. Three Gigis, three goals.
