After a long and glittering career with AC Milan, Alessandro Costacurta played his last game at San Siro in May 2007. The game was the Rossoneri’s final match before flying out to Athens for the Champions League final against Liverpool. The Friulans emerged victorious in that particular AC Milan v Udinese game, but Billy had the pleasure of scoring a penalty in front of his adoring fans.
A year later, the same fixture came up but this time it ended in a different result. AC Milan v Udinese ended 4-1 to the Rossoneri, with Cafu among the Rossoneri names on the scoresheet. But that was overshadowed as both Serginho and Il Pendolino (Cafu’s nickname: The Express Train) both bade emotional farewells to San Siro. Despite the disappointment of missing out on qualification for the Champions League, the whole stadium was focused on saying goodbye to their two Brazilian heroes.
A few months later, AC Milan v Udinese took place again just before the Christmas break in the league. On that occasion Milan easily overcame their opponents 5-1. But the noteworthy detail from that match was the presence of David Beckham in the stands. The Englishman had landed in Milan the previous day and was readying himself for his first six months with the Rossoneri.
January 2011 also saw the arrival of a new face for the Rossoneri, as Antonio Cassano made his first appearance at San Siro in a Milan shirt. When Fantantonio came on as a sub, Udinese were 3-1 up but thanks in part to flashes of brilliance from their new man from Bari, the game ended 4-4.
