#TBT: BRESCIA, THE SCUDETTO IN SIGHT

23 April 2011, a huge Easter Saturday in the title race

Inter took to the pitch at 15:00, AC Milan at 18:00. That’s why, a match that, wrongly, may have seemed like a walk in the park the night before, became a tough one on the day. That Easter Saturday in 2011 in Brescia was a day experienced on a knife edge regarding the title race: the Rossoneri started the round, matchday 34, at the top of the table six points clear of Napoli and eight clear of Inter with five games to go.

The Nerazzurri lured AC Milan into a false sense of security: they were losing against Lazio after Zarate’s goal and they gave off the aura that it was all over, before then winning 2-1 thanks to a comeback. So, the Rossoneri no longer had an eight-point lead, but five, and they still had to face Brescia.

Brescia still had a lot to play for on the 23 April given they were on a tally of 30 points and were sat second last in the table, but they still had hope of surviving since Cesena were fourth last and only four points ahead. What’s more, the Rossoneri were without Ibra, Pato and Inzaghi, with all three out injured. So, the duo up top was comprised of Cassano and Robinho, while Brescia had Diamanti, Caracciolo and Eder all on the pitch.

It was a tough game, that was goalless for a while which meant Inter would narrow the gap. Then, all of a sudden, the Rossoneri produced two decisive moments: thanks to Robinho’s goal which was then followed by Abbiati’s crucial save to prevent Diamanti’s possible equaliser. All this happened in a blur in the dying minutes, an Easter rollercoaster.
