If you hear AC Milan v Fiorentina, it's likely that you think back to one of our best afternoons in recent history. It was Sunday afternoon at San Siro where everything was starting to feel possible, and it was in the middle of that week that we secured one of our greatest ever Scudetti. The match against Palladino's Fiorentina will be our first Serie A game of April, and we are going to prepare for it with our Time Machine, looking back at our fixture three seasons ago.

1 May 2022. A Sunday after seven important days, including our last-minute winner against Lazio at the Olimpico and Inter's away loss to Bologna, a defeat which left the title-race in our hands. With four wins in our last four games, in fact, we were almost nailed as title-winners after an eleven-year wait. The first challenge was anything but easy: Italiano's Fiorentina, who were chasing down a European spot, were the first team to beat us in Serie A 2021/22 in the reverse fixture. A lot happened in the first 20 minutes: Leão, Igor and Giroud all had great chances and Theo's goal was ruled out for offside. In general, Pioli's side were attacking well, but they missed a few chances and Terracciano's clean sheet was kept intact. Until the 82nd minute.

To be honest, the winning goal came as a real sigh of relief for the whole of San Siro (back full for the first time since the Covid-19 outbreak) after Maignan's double save off of the line from Cabral's header in the 76th minute. Six minutes later, it was 1-0, but to us. Terracciano's clearance was short, and it fell to Leão who was all alone. Rafa attacked the left wing, finding his way past Milenković and beating the keeper with a right-footed strike into the bottom corner. The stadium erupted into complete jubilation and in the final eight minutes (plus stoppage time), nothing else happened that threatened to change the result. AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina. Three huge points that pushed us closer to achieving our dream.
