    HistoryApril 17th 2026

Lecce vs. AC Milan is back, on Matchday 2 of Serie A 2025/2026 and it will be our first away game of the season. It is a fixture that had been full of emotions over the years, just like on 7 April 1991, in the 1990/91 season. At the Via del Mari, the Rossoneri under Arrigo Sacchi imposed themselves with a 3-0 win: it was an important victory against highly determined opposition.

On a warm afternoon in Puglia, AC Milan headed to the pitch with their normal attacking mentality, determined to return to form after a bit of a grey patch. The Rossoneri progressively took control of the first half after a competitive start. Moriero had two chances to trouble Sebastiano Rossi, but it was in fact Il Diavolo who turned up the pressure as time went on, and in the 38th minute, the Rossoneri got in front: Van Basten drove down the flank and found Marco Simone, who after a rebound, beat the onrushing Zunico. 1-0 and the deadlock was broken. Lecce tried to react but AC Milan were solid and set the tone well, searching for a goal to double their lead.

After the break, AC Milan's technical and tactical superiority became even more clear. The home side struggled to contain the Rossoneri link-ups. The second came in the 71st minute: Evani broke down the left wing and played it into the area to Donadoni who controlled and let off a precise shot that crept into the bottom corner, past the keeper's dive. Ruud Gullit then made it three: in the 90th minute, Donadoni threaded the needle and Gullit found the back of the net. 3-0 to AC Milan, and a proof of the strength that projected Sacchi's side into the title race alongside Inter and Sampdoria (who went onto win).
